POLYDACTYL HEARTS:
Combining innovative live music with evocative visual art, Guelph’s Polydactyl Hearts Collective explores the performative intersections of sight and sound. They are best known for the creation of Le Cyc, the “graphic novel bike opera” that debuted in 2008 and told the tale of a future, bicycle-powered dystopia. Their newest project, the award-winning Hello Adventure, was commissioned by Wavelength and debuted at the Images Festival in April 2010. In a series of six shorts, Hello Adventure uses stop-motion animation and a live musical score to create a wildly imaginative world in which the basic structures of society have begun to unravel. Illustrations and paintings by Dave Willekes are synchronized using a game-pad to control the speed, panning, and zooming of the images alongside the six piece musical ensemble. As part of their fall tour, Polydactyl Hearts are performing a “Double Feature” evening with Hello Adventure and Le Cyc. This special
performance will also mark the Guelph release of their full feature DVD of Le Cyc.
