Kazoo! #123
ROUGE:
The fierce ladies of Rouge combine sounds from 80s dance hits and millennial indie-pop with a live show that guarantees powerhouse vocals, delicious melodies, flashy outfits and a whole lot of energy. Their influences range from Annie Lennox and Kylie Minogue to Peaches and Daft Punk, and their flirty feminist, queer positive lyrics signal a throwback to Riot Grrrl. Kelly McMichael (Gentleman Reg) and Jess Tollefsen (Green Go) formed Rouge while living in Guelph in 2007, driven by shared obsessions with spandex and dance music. In 2008, the young Emma Tollefsen dispelled notions that three’s a crowd when she joined up as Rouge’s drummer. This fall they are releasing a brand new 7″ record.

INTERSTLLR:
Interstllr is one of Guelph’s newest and hottest projects. Combining the slick vocal style of Koko Bonaparte and the beats of Mad Adam, this duo have begun a new chapter in Guelph’s independent music scene. Together these two make infectious pop songs, with quick verse-to-chorus trade-offs and deliciously catchy beats. Born out of Guelph Plague Language hip hop scene, Mad Adam and Koko draw on their roots with Mad Adam as a beat producer (for Noah 23 and countless others), and Koko as an MC. With this brand new project they move beyond hip hop into their own brand of layered auto-tuned pop music. They amazed audiences at a house party in August and this will be their first club show, so get ready to dance.

SKENE
Karl Skene is the founding member and main composer of one of Guelph’s best loved bands, TIN. Since TIN, Karl has been dj’ing under the ‘Wolk’ moniker and composing solo material. Karl draws influences from experimental electronic music, dubstep, post-punk and everything in-between. Playing live rarely, each solo performance by Karl is a unique experience often drawing on an entirely new body of songs from his last show. Karl has yet to release an album of his collected solo material but when it drops you can be sure it will turn some heads.
