Toronto-based singer-songwriter André Ethier has done a lot. Whether playing with the now-defunct garage rock heroes, the Deadly Snakes, venturing on his own in the mid-2000s with laid back delta blues-driven folk rock, or pushing his visual art practice to new heights, Ethier keeps moving. With a trio of beautiful, surreal, and subtle LPs released on Telephone Explosion, culminating with 2021’s excellent Further Up Island, Ethier and his music continues to evolve. Beautiful, raw, affirming — this is remarkable music by a remarkable artist.
