Kazoo! #261: Faith Healer / Shopkeeper – Sept 17th @ Take Time

 In Uncategorized

FAITH HEALER
We’ve been wanting to see Faith Healer in Guelph since Jessica Jalbert (Edmonton) and Renny Wilson (Montreal) dropped their phenomenal, blissed out but still shredding debut, Cosmic Troubles, back in 2015. Now, they’ve released an even more stunning follow-up, Try ;-), and they’re bringing the full 5-piece band (rounded out by the Tee-Tahs’ Jenni Roberts, Mitchmatic, and a young guy named Ross) to Guelph!

“The pop-rock arrangements are still overflowing with beautiful sonic details—from the Twin Peaks synths that enshroud “Sterling Silver” to the funky clavinet that’s nestled within the paisley-patterned pop of “& Waiting—but the instrumentation is stripped down enough that it can be faithfully recreated by a live band. Jalbert and Wilson were inspired by the garage-punk snarl of Wipers, the deadpan drama of Leonard Cohen’s Death of a Ladies’ Man, and the classic songwriting chops of Scott Walker and Elvis Costello.”

SHOPKEEPER
We are very excited to welcome a local favourite back to the Kazoo! Fest stage. Helmed by Scott Haynes, and featuring Jenny Mitchell (AKA Jenny Omnichord / Bird City) and Steph Yates (from Esther Grey and Cupcake Ductape), Shopkeeper nods to greats like Will Oldham and Jason Molina, while bringing something totally fresh and captivating to the folk rock genre. Fresh off their Golden Bus tour to Sappy Fest, and with new songs in tow, we can’t wait to see Shopkeeper back in Guelph.
